Park or get a lift at Glasgow?

For a week away, the cheapest parking we can see is £140. A lift costs nothing in airport charges using the free option, or £14 using the terminal zones. The real cost of a lift is your driver's time and fuel: put your mileage into the calculator below.

Lift or park: which is cheaper?

Being dropped off and picked up means your driver does the trip twice each way: four journeys. This adds that up using Glasgow's own charges.

Booking: Glasgow Airport says booking in advance saves up to 60% on turn-up prices for stays over 24 hours, and that prices vary with the time of year, distance from the terminal and how far ahead you book. Bookings can be made up to 2 hours before arrival and guarantee a space.

Meet and greet: Valet Parking is the airport's own service: drive through the picture booth into a Valet Drop-Off lane in Car Park 1, check in at the Valet Cabin kiosks and leave your keys in the drop box. On return you collect the keys from a locker and the car is in the return bays. Stays of 7 days or more, booked direct only.

Blue Badge: Blue Badge holders get 30 minutes free in the Terminal Multi-Storey; quote the 13-digit badge number at the exit intercom. Standard charges apply to Blue Badge holders in Pick Up and Drop Off, and the airport says they should use Car Park 2 instead.

Off-airport parking

Off-airport car parks and meet-and-greet firms are private businesses, not part of the airport. Many are fine and cheaper, but check before you book: where the car is actually kept, how the transfer works and how often it runs, whether the car park has the Park Mark Safer Parking award, the firm's cancellation terms and recent reviews. Meet-and-greet firms that aren't the airport's own can't use the terminal forecourt without paying the airport's charges like anyone else.

What Glasgow Airport says: The airport says Valet and Priority Parking cannot be bought through third parties, and that a booking reference it does not recognise was probably made through a third-party site. No specific warning about off-airport operators found.
