Park or get a lift at Stansted?

For a week away, the cheapest parking we can see is from £37.45. A lift costs nothing in airport charges using the free option, or £20 using the terminal zones. The real cost of a lift is your driver's time and fuel: put your mileage into the calculator below.

Lift or park: which is cheaper?

Being dropped off and picked up means your driver does the trip twice each way: four journeys. This adds that up using Stansted's own charges.

15p a mile is a starting point; change it to suit your car. Parking prices change by date, so get a quote from the airport's own parking site.

Booking: Most official car parks are pre-book only; Turn Up & Park is offered at Short Stay and Mid Stay. The airport says prices vary with the time of year, the car park's location and how far ahead you book, and a quote is only valid at the time of booking.

Meet and greet: Two official options, both pre-book only. Meet & Greet: drive to the M&G entrance by the Short Stay car parks, hand keys to reception and a driver parks the car on site, 2-minute walk to the terminal. Valet Parking: hand your keys to staff at Express Set Down Zone C and the car is returned to the terminal forecourt.

Blue Badge: Blue Badge bays are in Short Stay (orange, green and blue zones), Long Stay (Zone Q), Mid Stay (Zone L) and at the front of Express Set Down, and can be booked on the airport's Blue Badge parking website. The airport says there are no Blue Badge spaces in the Blue and Green car parks throughout November, and the Blue Badge scheme does not apply on the airport road system. No free or discounted Blue Badge tariff is published, and the Express Set Down charge (£10 for 15 minutes) is not waived.

Off-airport parking

Off-airport car parks and meet-and-greet firms are private businesses, not part of the airport. Many are fine and cheaper, but check before you book: where the car is actually kept, how the transfer works and how often it runs, whether the car park has the Park Mark Safer Parking award, the firm's cancellation terms and recent reviews. Meet-and-greet firms that aren't the airport's own can't use the terminal forecourt without paying the airport's charges like anyone else.

What London Stansted Airport says: Stansted says it has had complaints about some third-party meet and greet operators that are not associated with the airport, is liaising with Trading Standards, local authorities and the police, and strongly discourages booking with Nationwide Parking. It says official parking can only be booked through its own parking pages, and anyone affected should contact Trading Standards.
